The Lizzie Borden House – Whitewashed

28 May

The House at 92 Second Street, Fall River, MA., aka, the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast Museum is undergoing a major paint job.  Recently scraped down through over a century’s worth of various exterior paint jobs, it looked liked this until a few days ago:

I rather like that look…sort of beckons as a haunted house doesn’t it?  These images were taken the day the Discovery Channel began a 3 day shoot for a new episode to be aired in the Fall.

But earlier this week the painters did a white primer which gives it a clean and even modern look, IMHO.  I like this too, but to keep it would mean changing all the brochures for one thing.  Nah, it’s gonna go back to that green – not quite drab, but matches the website and easy to tell callers….”it’s the big green house”.

Sidewalk survey:  “Looks good white”.

Oh no! I absolutely loved the previous color scheme on the Borden house. I plan to paint my house the same. I hope the white is just a base color before the top coat goes on. White houses are so ugly and unimaginative. Boring people have boring white houses.

Actually, the white was just the primer as stated in that blog post. I rather liked the white – sort of negates the “haunted house” persona that now dominates the perception of this historic structure.
